Call Your Representative for Wilderness

February 5th, 2009 Posted by Larry Hogue in wilderness

Our friends at the California Wilderness Coalition are asking wilderness enthusiasts to call their U.S. Representatives, urging passage of the 2009 Omnibus Public Lands Management Act. The bill will designate new wilderness areas in several states, including 700,000 acres in California. Areas to gain new wilderness protections include the Eastern Sierra, mountain and desert areas of Riverside County, the San Gabriel Mountains, parts of northern San Diego County, and Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park. The act will also designate 100 miles of scenic rivers in California.

The Senate passed its version of the bill on January 15, so we’re getting very close to seeing this new wilderness designation. The House could vote as early as today, so call your Representative right now, encouraging a yes vote.

The Coalition has contact info for eight key House members for you to call. To find contact info for your own Representative, go here.
