Desert Protective Council on the Radio

July 25th, 2008 Posted by Larry Hogue in Uncategorized

DPC’s Terry Weiner has broadcast DPC’s message of desert conservation over the airwaves twice this summer. On June 9, she was a guest on Patt Morrison’s talk show on KPCC. The topic was the desert solar land rush, and the other guests were Steven Borchard of the Bureau of Land Management and Stuart Hemphill of Southern California Edison. You can listen here.

Thanks to Terry’s appearance on this show, BLM was convinced that it needed to add another public meeting on its Solar Energy Development Programmatic EIS. Over 60 people attended the meeting in El Centro (see Terry’s previous post for a report on the meeting).

On July 21, Terry was quoted briefly on KPBS radio about the happy news that the Peirson’s milkvetch, a rare plant found only in the Algodones Dunes of Imperial County, will continue to be listed as a threatened species, after a lawsuit by offroaders to delist the species failed. You can listen or read the news piece here.
