| Save the Peninsular Bighorn!
The US Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed cutting critical habitat for the Peninsular bighorn sheep by half. This blatant move to appease developers in the Coachella Valley will harm this endangered subpopulation of desert bighorn. The proposal will contribute to habitat fragmentation by breaking critical habitat into three separate units. It will also deny important summer forage areas for nursing ewes and their lambs. Taking the bighorn's place: golf courses and gravel mining operations, just what the Coachella Valley needs more of.
To take action to prevent this devastating reduction in critical habitat for the bighorn, go to www.dpcinc.org/_onething.shtml.

The San Diego Smart Energy Solutions Campaign offers a viable, reliable, and clean alternative to SDG&E's destructive Sunrise Powerlink, which would violate wilderness values in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, as well as impacting important desert habitat in Imperial County. The campaign's alternative, described in a report entitled "San Diego Smart Energy 2020," focuses on in-basin generation, renewables, conservation, and other methods that will allow San Diego to meet more of its own energy needs without destructive and wasteful long-distance transmission lines. It also will reduce San Diego's power-related greenhouse gas emissions by 50%. To learn more about the alternative, and to take a quick action to support the campaign, go to: www.dpcinc.org/_sunrisepower.shtml.
