RANCHLANDS TO PARKLANDS
Instructor: Sue Wade
Meet at Sunrise Horse Staging Area on Highway S1
Fee: Member $25; Non-Member $35
Livestock ranchers in the 20th century had to be quite resourceful in order to wrest a living from the Cuyamaca Mountains. We’ll spend some time on two former ranches—the Tulloch and the Lucky 5—that have recently been added to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, and learn about some of the ways early settlers were able to overcome adversity and recycle materials at hand to build their lives here. We’ll also see how livestock grazing leaves its legacy on the landscape. The scenery is gorgeous, so take advantage of this opportunity to escape the heat of the desert (or the city!) and come enjoy these new parklands! Wear walking shoes, and bring lunch, water, and hat.
